Tommy Quinn a.k.a the ‘Roly Poly Kid’ began fighting age 17. One of our MMA, Kickboxing, Muay Thai and boxing instructors at the BBTC, he has a lot of experience in the industry.
Tommy was Irish Welterweight champion after winning the EFR four man tournament. Now, alongside his coaching at the BBTC, Tommy currently fights exclusively for Europe’s leading MMA promotion Cage Warriors.
Before making his transition to professional, Tommy had an unbeaten semi-pro record of 4-0-0, winning his first fight only 8 months after he first began training. Originally coached by Emmett ‘The Mauler’ McNally, his move to Newcastle to study a BA in Sports Development lead to a friendship between himself and Pete Irving.
Through Pete’s tuition, Tommy was able to develop his MMA and BJJ skills and learn alongside some of the industry’s top talent e.g. Ross ‘the Real Deal’ Pearson, Andy Ogle, Richy Knox, Ryan Roddy and Phil De Fries.
He recently returned from Australia where he was the striking coach for the MMA clinic, Perth. Tommy is famed for his intense work rate in his fights.
The Roly Poly Kid was a nick name earned for his obesity at a young age. Having now overcome that and reached the peak of his sport, Tommy feels that his move to England was the best thing he ever did. He has learnt a lot from his coaches and training partners within the UK and now hoped to pass that on to the members of the BBTC.
